The Economist Intelligence Unit Report: Reducing the burden of parasitic worms in sub-Saharan Africa

02 Oct 2020

In this report the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) looks at the burden of NTDs in sub-Saharan Africa, in particular the parasitic worms, and strategies for their control.

The EIU estimates the potential economic gains from meeting the WHO’s goal of eliminating schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis as public health problems by 2030, and preventing their resurgence. The report is focused on four sub-Saharan African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Zimbabwe), and contextualise these results in country profiles.

Drawing on the latest research and data, as well as an expert panel and in-depth interviews with leading experts in the field, this report provides valuable insights into the potential impact of eliminating these diseases and what needs to be done to achieve this goal.
