EANASSO | FGS 2.0 - Malawi country context

4 June 2025 9:30 BST
virtual event

FGS affects around 56 million women and girls in Sub-Saharan Africa and arises from untreated schistosomiasis, a parasitic infection transmitted in freshwater bodies. When parasite eggs become lodged in the genital tract, they can cause severe reproductive health complications, including infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and increased risks for HIV, HPV, and cervical cancer. Often misdiagnosed as a sexually transmitted infection, FGS leaves women and girls vulnerable to stigma, mistreatment, and gender-based violence, particularly in marginalized communities without access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare. Join us for the FGS 2.0 webinar, where we will look at Malawi and the approach they have taken: “Current status on FGS implementation in Malawi”
