Art Exhibition | "A Seat at the Table": WHA Side Event for People-Centered Care
"A Seat at the Table," will amplify the voices of those with lived experience of illness and champion a people-centered approach to healthcare. This side event at the 78th World Health Assembly, hosted by Gilead Sciences, Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care Program in Global Primary Health Care, International Alliance of Patient Organizations (IAPO) and UNAIDS, will feature stories and an art installation that bring the importance of people-centered care into focus— addressing the imbalance of power in which people with lived experience of disease are too often left out of health system decision-making.
The installation will showcase artwork and creative contributions from over 15 global health organizations, each offering a unique perspective on lived experience and community-centered care in action. The theme of the art installation, “A Seat at the Table,” reminds us that healthcare is a shared responsibility—built with the people it serves. It challenges us to see people with lived experience as essential collaborators in their care.
Frontline AIDS is proud to collaborate with the FGS Integration Group (FIG), Education as a Vaccine, Alliance for Public Health, and LVCT Health to contribute artwork to this important event.
The piece, “A Seat for Snails: The Hidden Impact of Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) on HIV” highlights the urgent need to recognise and address the overlooked link between FGS and HIV, and to centre the voices of the millions of women and girls affected by this neglected disease.
