GONE webinar | SENEGAL’S JOURNEY: APPLYING the WHO Integrated Post-Validation/Verification Surveillance (PVS) Toolkit for NTDs to Build an Integrated PVS Plan
This webinar brings together countries and stakeholders to share experiences and insights on conducting integrated surveillance for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in the period post-validation/verification (PVS) of their elimination as a public health problem. Senegal has become a model in Africa for implementing integrated PVS for onchocerciasis. After halting mass drug administration in 2022, the country entered a 3-year surveillance phase, using the PVS toolkit to align with WHO’s 2030 NTD roadmap. The plan emphasizes cross-sector collaboration, community involvement, and integration with national health systems. Panelists will share information on the development of the WHO Integrated PVS Toolkit for NTDs, as well as discussing the experience of Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Social Action (MSAS) in piloting the implementation of this toolkit to develop an integrated PVS plan for Lymphatic Filariasis and Onchocerciasis. This discussion aims to showcase the use of the Integrated PVS Toolkit for NTDs and highlight key challenges and solutions for its use in countries that have recently eliminated or are soon-to-eliminate Onchocerciasis.
