Follow Shukuru and his community in Pemba, Tanzania, as they learn about the risks urogenital schistosomiasis and how to prevent this parasitic worm infection.

The film was produced by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and the Public Health Laboratory – Ivo de Carneri from Pemba, Tanzania, as a behavior change intervention tool to engage community members and school children in Pemba and elsewhere about the risks and preventive measures of urogenital schistosomiasis.

Note: the messaging here on symptoms and transmission is specific to urogenital schistosomiasis, mainly cause by S. haematobium, the causative  worm species in Pemba and Zanzibar. This does not apply to intestinal forms of the disease, which have different symptoms and transmission pathways.
