Mr Jean Bosco Mbonigaba

Acting Director for the ‘Neglected Tropical Diseases and Other Parasitic Diseases’ programme in Rwanda, Rwanda Biomedical Centre.

Jean Bosco is a public health expert in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), elimination programmes. He has served in different areas of NTDs in lower levels since 2009. Since 2016, He is serving at national level at Rwanda Biomedical Centre and is currently serving as Acting Director for the ‘Neglected Tropical Diseases and Other Parasitic Diseases’ programme in Rwanda. He coordinated different initiatives including the first ever approved Rwanda NTD strategic Plan 2019-2024; decentralization and integration of NTD control and elimination plans under district coordination for community and local leadership engagement and ownership; Community-based Mass Drug Admnistration; and NTD mapping, surveillance and elimination projects (e.g. rhodesiense Human Africa Trypanosomiasis). He contributed in different NTDs studies. His dream is to see Rwanda eliminating 7 targeted NTDs including schistosomiasis by 2024 and seeing the reduction of NTDs burden to alleviate sufferings of affected individuals and communities.
